Typically, machine manufacturers provide industrial remote access through a “router,” additional (physical) equipment with wifi connectivity or mobile telephony, enabling a virtual private network (VPN) for data security and remote access.
However, this configuration has 3 limitations:

By enabling it, those who are physically operating on the machine inhibit any kind of remote operation, beyond whether the VPN is active or not, and security is total.
Then the operator on the machine can decide when to use the remote control. In the case where the VPN is managed by the machine supplier, deactivation via the switch secures the end user from unauthorized intrusion.
